Astrology (Jyotish Shastra)

Astrology, known as Jyotish Shastra in Sanskrit, is the ancient Vedic science of light that studies the correlation between celestial movements and earthly events. With origins dating back over 5000 years in the Indian subcontinent, Vedic astrology is considered the "eyes of the Vedas" - a divine gift to humanity for understanding the cosmic influences on human life. This profound science is based on the principle that there is a fundamental connection between the macrocosm (universe) and microcosm (individual).

Astrology differs from Western astrology in its use of the sidereal zodiac (fixed star positions) rather than the tropical zodiac. The system uses precise astronomical calculations of planetary positions (grahas), constellations (nakshatras), and zodiac signs (rashis) to create a birth chart (kundali). This chart becomes a blueprint of one's karma, revealing personality traits, life patterns, relationships, career potentials, health tendencies, and timing of significant events. The primary components studied include the 12 houses (bhavas), 9 planets (navagrahas), 27 lunar mansions (nakshatras), and various planetary periods (dashas). Students of Vedic astrology learn predictive techniques, remedial measures (upayas), and spiritual insights to help individuals align with their dharma (life purpose) and navigate challenges with greater awareness.
